The product group includes non-rechargeable portable batteries in accordance with the definition given in the European Union’s Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.
Nordic Swan Ecolabel non-rechargeable portable batteries meet strict requirements on responsible sourcing, raw materials, energy sources used in production and quality.
The requirements include:
- Manufacturing with at least 10% renewable self-generated or greenfield PPA electricity, supporting the development of renewable energy production. Fossil oil or coal is not allowed in the production.
- Quality test.
- Limits on mercury, cadmium and lead are stronger legislation.
- Prohibition of PVC and added PFAS.
- Use of responsibly sourced mineral raw materials. The manufacturers actively address social and environmental risks associated with the sourcing, processing, and trading of these materials throughout the entire supply chain.

** Where audits require more than one day away from the office including travelling, Nordic Ecolabelling can invoice an additional fee of 1,132 € per extra day. Other extraordinary costs induced by the audit can also be invoiced the applicant.
*** The renewal fee only applies if the application has been signed and submitted before end of the validity of the licence. Else the normal application fee will apply.
**** Administrative tasks that takes less than 1 hour will not be invoices.

The recipient is liable for the VAT according to article 56 of the Council Directive 2006/112/EC.
